Description

Unsatisfied ----------- Created: 16-January-2005 Created with: - POSER 4.03 - DAZ Studio (a beta) for exporting out an OBJ for BRYCE - BRYCE 5.01 (rendered in) - Photoshop (postwork overall look and texture) ====================== About: ------ I called this "Unsastisfied" because that's how I feel about it. :-\ (It could however also describe the characters feelings in the image from looking into the future and not seeing what he liked. ;-) I haven't played around with BRYCE volumetric lighting before and now I can see why...it takes ages to do a full sized render. - But it looks nice. This started out as an experiment to see what I could come up with in a scene with volumetric lighting and so it was always meant to be simple. - Just light coming in through the arched windows. - The other stuff came later. I didn't like the odd artifacts the volumetric lighting introduced into the image so I put a canvas texture on it in Photoshop to hide that fact. (trust me, it looks icky otherwise) - I've also run another filter over the image for the same reason but to also enhance and soften the feel of it all. ========== What a week I've been having... Never getting a full nights sleep each day for various reasons, got stung in the hand by a passing wasp for no bloody reason whatsoever, my car needs fixing, my internet connection's been flaky, hot summer days, and today the airconditiner has to be off because of lots of bushfires making smoke around here that's stinging my eyes and burning my throat...and I'm inside the house. (The moon was completely and dramatically 'blood red' this evening because of the smoke in the air.) - And then I spent ages rendering this image only to be unsatisfied. If it was last week and I saw this weeks events to come in my crystal ball then I'd be kicking it over as well. ;-) Z. ====================== ITEMS USED: =========== * Gothic Construction Kit from DAZ3D * Stone Texture Building Kit (textures also for BRYCE) by Laurie Stanley from DAZ3D ====================== FREEBIES used: -------------- * "mourner .3DS" figure from Baumgarten Enterprises http://www.baument.com * Stone Column from Baumgarten Enterprises http://www.baument.com * "Thick Fog" A sky from: Skies Pack 1 (10 skies) Copyright Justin Sucharski, Headcheese Art & Design - June 2002 - BRYCE - ======================

The mood is perfect. But the "Texture" effect you created is really cheesy and brings this image down. It's also a pity that you relied so heavily on "kits" and "sets" instead of creating the rather simple geometry yourself.

The lighting and textured finish work well together - I'd be satisfied.

The canvas effects from Photoshop I would say does not go that well with the image, but the image itself is Unbelievable. I like the light source and the way the image view is shown. I always loved volumetric lighting, but is very true it takes FOREVER to render, but sometimes gets an excellent render like this one. I would say satisfied, but I would remove that Canvas Effect and add a different one. Excellent render.
