Description

Unsatisfied (reworked version 2) ----------- Created: 16-January-2005 Reworked: 18-January-2005 Created with: - POSER 4.03 - DAZ Studio (a beta) for exporting out an OBJ for BRYCE - BRYCE 5.01 (rendered in) - Photoshop (postwork overall look and texture) ====================== Foreward: ---------- Okay, after comments about the last version posted on Renderosity I gave this version a different overall texture to help hide the weird artifacts introduced when rendering. This version has an effect over it that's a light as possible but as it is you can still see some of the 'herringbone-like' artifacts in the image to the right. They're strange artifacts in that it's almost looks like the light is acting like water ripples with the 'ripples' coming out from the main light source in the shape of the arched windows but then also meeting and running into other 'ripples' from the opposite side of them to create interference or moire-like patterning. It was a 3 walled scene (plus a solid ceiling) and there were no other lights in the scene other than the strong single source from the sun. Anyway, I'm done with this now. Yet another night tonight of choking on bushfire smoke from arsonists deliberately going around setting fire to bushland and endangering homes, property, and lives. - Smoke was like thick fog everywhere yesterday with very limited visibility and it reminded me of this image. ;-) --- Text and credits below are the same from my initial version posting --- ====================== About: ------ I called this "Unsastisfied" because that's how I feel about it. :-\ (It could however also describe the characters feelings in the image from looking into the future and not seeing what he liked. ;-) I haven't played around with BRYCE volumetric lighting before and now I can see why...it takes ages to do a full sized render. - But it looks nice. This started out as an experiment to see what I could come up with in a scene with volumetric lighting and so it was always meant to be simple. - Just light coming in through the arched windows. - The other stuff came later. I didn't like the odd artifacts the volumetric lighting introduced into the image so I put a canvas texture on it in Photoshop to hide that fact. (trust me, it looks icky otherwise) - I've also run another filter over the image for the same reason but to also enhance and soften the feel of it all. ========== What a week I've been having... Never getting a full nights sleep each day for various reasons, got stung in the hand by a passing wasp for no bloody reason whatsoever, my car needs fixing, my internet connection's been flaky, hot summer days, and today the airconditiner has to be off because of lots of bushfires making smoke around here that's stinging my eyes and burning my throat...and I'm inside the house. (The moon was completely and dramatically 'blood red' this evening because of the smoke in the air.) - And then I spent ages rendering this image only to be unsatisfied. If it was last week and I saw this weeks events to come in my crystal ball then I'd be kicking it over as well. ;-) Z. ====================== ITEMS USED: =========== * Gothic Construction Kit from DAZ3D * Stone Texture Building Kit (textures also for BRYCE) by Laurie Stanley from DAZ3D ====================== FREEBIES used: -------------- * "mourner .3DS" figure from Baumgarten Enterprises http://www.baument.com * Stone Column from Baumgarten Enterprises http://www.baument.com * "Thick Fog" A sky from: Skies Pack 1 (10 skies) Copyright Justin Sucharski, Headcheese Art & Design - June 2002 - BRYCE - ======================

I like the mystic lights, it kinda gives an unnatural touch to the picture.

I like the lighting and the refractions. Not too keen on the texture, but that's just me. And you get the prize for the longest comments :-)

I like it, but I think I'd like it better without the texture. If you're getting the artifacts I think you're getting, you might try changing the quality setting of the volume to remove them. Do a plop render on the worst part and see if that changes anything :) It tends to do the banding thing most noticeably when it's getting fairly dim and has passed through a narrow opening (like between the figure and the edge of the window)
