Description

OK, I was shooting for pure realism here - so it won't get any points in the artwork department. In the realism department the main focus was on her eyes and teeth. There are 4 lights in this scene - no postwork. The lesson was, if you open the figures mouth, you will have to heavily compromise on lighting. Rendertime was about 30mins and it took 48 renders (thankfully most of those were in draft mode)!!! Firstly...skin. This was using HyperReal with a minor mod to on the highlights - I'll post the mod at somepoint if it works under a range of conditions. Due to the main light position required for the teeth shadow - the fake sss is not strong on her upper cheeks (looks a touch green). Also some FF raytrace artifacts on the hair shadow on her right cheek. Eyes...couple of tricks here. Firstly - eyewhite have a fake sss in them. Secondly, there are eyelid shadows. These were done using not ray-traced shadows, not depth map shadows, but what I'd like to call "brute-force shadows". I think the effect is a little overdone in this image. Teeth...These were so tricky. Firstly - how do you keep the back of her mouth from shining? Well every upper light has to have ray-traced shadows ON. And you can only get the teeth/lip shadow from one light (multiple shadows ruin the effect). Then to get the teeth highlight - you need every lower light with shadows OFF. I also switched off the materials for Tongue and InnerMouth to keep it quiet in there. Tried to match her teeth and eyewhite tone/intensity - but they are still not quite right.

the face and eyes look incredible... the teeth like she is wearing glass caps. What type machine did it take 30 minutes? just wondering. Great work.

Here's a tidbit to help. Her teeth are drawing too much attention because the uppers are too low. Raise them and then use lips open to curl the lip. You can close mouth-open after that. Mouths are like eyes...you have to be within 99.9% accurate to be believable. Everyone looks there. A little frown and blink on one side to break up symmetry. You're very close. Displacement off on the lips, maybe.

This looks great, you got the eyes just perfect the shadow under the eyelids makes the eyes look real. Very hard to get shadows there. The lips look great too. Excellent work :)

The eyes are definitely pretty cool, the skin looks good, and the teeth look better than any poser render I have ever seen, but it kinda looks like she is going to eat me or something...

Excellent work. From that distance though, any bumps and ridges on the teeth would show up. Agree with Richardson about the lips. Cracking stuff and worth a vote though. :)

Maybe you should try some ambience to the teeth next time. The eyes are wonderful, except that the shadow breaks on the lacrimal, (it looks not real to me). All in all too much work, I think. 48 renders is utopia.

the work you are doing is truly amazing. You really must have a lot of patience to render 48 *. Let us know when the new lights are ready.
