Quite like this, from the texture on the backgound to the soft colours in her face. Glad you commented about the size - makes it easier to understand a work.

It always astonishes me that some people can do a portrait with a few cans of paint.

Several reasons why I love this and I'll try to list them! 1) You've ignored that "rule" of composition where people think a subject positioned at the side has to be looking "in" towards the centre: this works so well exactly because you're looking outward! 2) All that negative space is a real treat, a world of subtle texture in its own right! 3) Excellent blending work on your skin and I can almost feel the material of your top! 4) You show a true understanding of colour temperature, there is no inappropriate jarring between one colour and another, it's true to the atmosphere of the piece. 5) Wonderful pensive expression you have there: there's no pretension behind the work, it isn't "trying" to be anything other than itself, there's no need as that expression is already open to so many possible interpretations. One's left wondering what you were thinking at the time. So there's a list of 5 there, did I mention that I like this? ;-)

Great mood, great textures, great colours, great composition....I could go on, but I'll just say that this portrait is nothing short of amazing. I've been sitting here with it on my desktop as I chat to Jim (who so kindly sent me the link) and just feeling overcome with a quandry of emotions staring out at me from behind the screen. Thank you so very much for sharing this Anna :)

Impressive work. What a wonderful composition! The brush strokes are so expertly and magically applied, and the soft lighting is exactly right for this thoughtful piece. Excellent... and I know it's late but a big VOTE
