Description
I see a mountain before me
Ragged rocky steep incline;
I note the gentle green spots
And hope that they'll be mine.
I'm committed to heading on up there
To persevering through the climb.
But
I wonder whether I have the stamina
To maintain the course I take,
When every few steps a hatchett
Sinks between my shoulder blades.
I buckle momentarily
And tell myself, "It's worth it!"
Straighten my legs and carry on
Towards an invisible peak.
It's lost in glorious silver clouds,
Behind several sheer steep cliffs
It's buried in uncertainty
And plenty of "but"s and "if"s.
I don't know if I'll ever make it,
My heart feels fit to explode;
I want to make the effort required;
But it seems a lonely road.
I'd like to know that I'll get there
It'd be great to share the load.
I just wish you were more than illusion,
That you were beside me on this
...uphill road.

" It's ironic that something as positive as breaking a long term writer's block could come from such a place of angst." -- that's how 'country' music artists made their biggest hits. WINK. Wonderfully written piece. Good luck. V
