Description
Today's image is the same view as yesterday's placid photo (Lake Moonrise I) only this one was taken during the height of Hurricane Frances last year. There was very little rain at the moment I clicked the shutter, but you can see the force of the wind from the blowing trees and the interesting patterns it created in the lake water. Luckily, we only sustained minor damage to our yard. Our house was built to withstand up to Category 4 winds, but I hope we don't have to test that ever again.

HURRICANE FRANCES:
The sixth named storm, the fourth hurricane, and the third major hurricane of the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm's maximum sustained wind speeds were 145 mph (230 km/h), giving it a strength of category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. The eye passed over San Salvador Island and very close to Cat Island in the Bahamas, and its outer bands also affected Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands.[1] Frances then passed over the central sections of the state of Florida in the U.S., moved briefly over the Gulf of Mexico on the other side of Florida, and made a second landfall at the Florida Panhandle.
IMPACT:
It affected the central regions of Florida just three weeks after Hurricane Charley, which was the United States's second costliest hurricane with about $14 billion in damage.
The total civilian damage from Frances was determined to be approximately $8,860,000,000. Add in the estimated $100 million damage done to space and military facilities at Cape Canaveral, Florida and the total damage is estimated to be about $9 billion, making it the fourth costliest hurricane in U.S. history, behind Hurricane Andrew of 1992 and Hurricanes Charley and Ivan of 2004. Some areas of Florida received over 13 inches of rain during the slow onslaught.

Outstanding composition - I love the mixed effects of the serenity of composition and the subtle effect of the wind - a marvelous job of showing 'action' in a still image. Bravo, well done! V

the bowing trees are awesome...

With the blacks and grays of the sky magnified in the reflection of the lake, at first I thought this was a B&W photo! Excellent contrast with the colors of the houses. The wind's effect is evident on both the trees and the surface of the lake. Great job!

Very Awesome. This picture gives one an eerie feeling that something will happen. Glad your outcome came out ok and not disastrous. Excellent Storm capture. Aloha

I like how you were able to catch the detail & exposure on the clouds there. That is what really shows the storm. It wouldn't have been the same to us "northerners" seeing the trees blowing & a sky with no detail. Great Job!

Well Sheila, the wind was blowing at the front of the house so I could actually go out on my back patio and not get rained on. It is something to see nearly horizontal rain coming down! Thanks for all your comments everyone!
