Description

Subaru Observatory: The top of Mauna Kea is considered sacred as it is the Piko (Navel) or center of Hawaii from where this Island began. It is also the closest thing to the heavens in all of Polynesia. There are approximately 90 shrines and burial sites on Mauna Kea but none of them were at the very top because of sacred area. When this Subaru Observatory was under construction in 1996, a fire broke out and three workers were killed. It was considered a curse and a warning by the Gods. There is now a standup shrine and alone on a hill. KAPU! Aloha and thank you for viewing.

dBgrafix, actually I'm on the roadway (standing up) that leads up to this observatory. There is a retaining wall that holds back the snow from sliding to the road. Aloha
