Description

The shrines on Mauna Kea represents the Hawaiian culture and religion. Mauna Kea represents the Hawaiian people's ancestral ties to the Creator. The upper part of Mauna Kea resides the Akua (Creator). The summit is the temple of the Supreme Being. Mauna Kea is the home of the Akua (God, Goddess, spirit) and Na'Aumakua (the divine ancestors). Hawaiian definition: Akua means: God, goddess, spirit, ghost, image, idol, divine, supernatural, godly Au makua: . Family or personal gods, deified ancestors who might assume the shape of sharks, owls, hawks,octopuses, eels, mice, rats, dogs, caterpillars, rocks, cowries, clouds, or plants.

woww l find the hawaiian culture most interesting having very little knowledge on the orginal beliefs.. spiritually ..and finding it all so very beautiful.. would love to know more.. superb p'graphy..looks so pure against the snow... superb sparky...:)

Wonderful shot. I love the snowy scene with the almost hidden lake. It certainly has the feel a very spiritual place. The trivia is great to know too. Are you familiar with the Humuhumunukunukuapuaa? We had to learn how to say that in middle school on Oahu. My favorite part is what it translate to in English is only 3 letters long. :) (my spelling may be off)

Excellent capture, Errol! The POV is fantastic!... IMHO I would take away that bit of blue sky in the upper right edge... but that's just me ;o) Anyway a most beautiful image! Thanks for that interesting explanation, too!
