Description

Lake Waiau Shrine: One of two shrines at Lake Waiau. On this shrine is a weaved lei made from Ti leaf. There is also a white coral rock to symbolize the ocean. Also, money was placed under the rocks. But the Hawaiian word is "KAPU" (meaning sacred, keep out, no trespassing, leave it alone). From the ocean to heaven, Mauna Kea arose and thus the Birth of Hawaii began. I'm not sure what that number at bottom right is for??? Aloha and thank you for viewing

Interesting Tedz. In the older Hawaiian language, they used T instead of K. Tapu is a match of the two language. Thanks for sharing. Aloha

Wow! What an incredible find, Errol!!!! I sooooo much love this photo!!! I've always loved rocks and stones, as well as burial sites. i know it sounds a bit morbid, but well, i've always found stuff like this really fascinating. I would love to know the history of the person this shrine is for. Obviously, that person was cared for very much! Perhaps the date is the year the person died. i would like to know! This is a verrrrry special image, and it's a helluva fantastic image!!! high 5's and vote!

Great shot and thanks for the background! Maybe it is the year the first white man found the shrine?
