Everywhere people with camera's find their way in this world to make their shots. I like the art of taking realistic pictures, because it provides a way to show how I experience this world. It is a way for other people to look through my eyes.Nature ... exists primarily for her face, her look, her appeals to the heart and the imaginationGeorge MacDonaldJan-Carel Vierbergen
Picture courtesy of Ruut WegmanBIOIt is all in the family: love for hiking in the nature. Since my childhood I'm used to walk with father, brothers, cousins, etc., and take pictures (Minolta X-700 with 28-70 mm and 100-300 mm zoom) of what I see. I grew up in Ede (The Netherlands), studied Electrical Engineering in Eindhoven and I am working now as Coordinator e-learning at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede (http://www.che.nl) where I implement digital assessments for students and assist students in DTP and creating websites.
Since I know little about photographing as well as computer science it was not difficult to find ways for putting images on the web. The only thing to look for now is to find ways for showing the slides in a convenient way. I tried already something at http://www.che.nl/users/jcv (Dutch only, click at Dia's van de natuur in Nederland en de Alpen), but this platform provides good means to share my pictures with others.
I hope you enjoy this!

I assume the answer to your question is what we call "gradient" in the free flight context. Anyway, the theory is the same between air and liquid because both are fluids. The closer you get to the ground the more the speed of the wind is attenuated because of the presence of obstacles. The same appears with water when you get close to the banks of a river, for example. Look at the floating objects, they move slowly when they are close to the edges and fast when in the middle. And, the more the water moves, the more it will need time to get frozen... I'm not sure about all this but I assume this is the explanation.

Great picture, and the railway line (?) in the background, Jan-Carel. Philippe's explanation makes sense. He is a good observer of nature. Regards, John.

Cool shot, love the ice formation & how dark blue the water is, ask myself that alot, out on lake Huron it'll be open water then way out on the lake one spot will freez,it's not broken off either, what the heck s with the spear looking things? or is that a snowmobiel trail? awsome shot!!!:0) @-}--

Fantastic POV! It's so colorful in the foreground and foggy in the background that it provides a great sense of depth. Incredible shot!

good question & layers of water at different degrees of freeze :]

great POV and impressive and contrastful layers! good question! eine Stelle tiefer, andere weniger, wie siehts mit der Strung aus? ;o)))

amazing shot :-)) water is wonderful .. excellent done jcv2

The surface water at the center has a larger heat reservoir as compared to the water on sides. A very interesting view. Aloha

The less amount of water the faster the freeze.Molecules in runing water may cause a bit of heat so it freezes less fast. Ground actually acts as an insulator so thats why the deeper it is the warmer it gets. Anyway see what you did with this image LOL. Got us all thinking. Good job.

There are two flows one visible in the foreground and one invisble in the wires in the background. The analog makes perfect sense. The metaphor bothers odd intellects.

Excellent POV, this is a very intriguing shot!!!!

i'm fascinated by the various layering of the water here! it almost looks like snow or chunks of ice toward the back, then the middle so cold and icy!! love that deep blue. then we see chunks of ice again in the foreground mixed with the water. I don't understand how it all works but i've enjoyed contemplating it and reading the various explanations! and i love how that water is right in my face!! Fantastic work, Jan-Carel! and your cropping works beautifully!!!
