Description

Well this is the most time consuming render I've done so far. I think I could write a book about it....although I'll just give you the summary. Modelling : His head is M3, imported into ZBrush2. Various 'pushes' and 'pulls' later I had a shape that looked nothing like my reference image, but I thought he had a certain 'look', so went with that. Skin Texturing : I used the upcoming MyperReal M3 kit, and twiddled dials to get some years into him. A couple of points - adding lots of spots reddens his skin, so I had to reduce sss and 'pale' him a bit. And I wound up the bump and granite. Upping the bump reduces the nice specular effects - so I also had to up the specular power and oiliness. I hindsight - a reduced bump level would have made life easier. Eyes : These use a prototype script to give the "brute-force shadows" and a few other things. There is a bunch of other stuff going on in his eyes, some good, some not so good (like the specular seems between his cornea and eyewhite). I think his eyewhites need more bump and the specular is too strong....next time. Teeth : You would be amazed now many mat room nodes there are for his teeth! There is a sort of fake sss in there. Plus some brute-force shadowing. Unfortunately there is a tiny bit of specular on his top lip that impacts the tooth shadow effect. I was almost tempted to break the "no postwork" policy on this one. Oh, and thanks for all the crits on my last couple of renders. Keep 'em coming.

Great render. Doing it again, it is getting there. Already a super realistic look.

Wow. That really is Hyper realistic. I love the wrinkles under the eyes, They really bring out the "leather" effect of the skin. Is there anyway to put in just a hint of Nasal & Ear Hair in poser ? Matt

And here's my summary... the expression says it all... "what's he on about?, the guys mad, I'm brilliant"... this is one of those great renders. It has to be everything we hope to achieve in realism. I don't understand, yet, most of your own crits, but I do know that with your ability with mathematics, you will always produce good images... Good stuff, aspiring... love your work. Deane...

Mate - this is scarily good, I just did not expect poser to be able to do something this realistic (just out of morbid curiosity will P5 render this with hair?) As far as the skin goes I think the only thing missing is the slight tranlucency of the human ear (but then you only really see that in brighter lighting conditions). The eyes are amazing - really. The teeth are getting there, the 'brute shadows' look to be working well but they are still just a touch too white, real teeth tend to have a bit of an uneven yellow tint to them. I wish i could vote for this more than once.

Geez I am expecting him to blink! I love how you push and push and push to find realism in your work. You have set a standard others are trying to achieve within Poser by pushing it's limits!

What a name for the lucky guy! lol. A really low bumpmap setting on the eyes will help and probably simplify some of the nodework (spec edge blur). I really like his ears. Most neglected item. They have character and cast some nice shadows. I don't understand the triangular shapes in anistropic. Never saw it before. I would try a render in another software to see where he really is at, right now...with dof (if possible). Any futher with him and it's texturetime...lines and creases.

Spectacular work, despite the few minor glitches you mention - which I wouldn't have noticed without that, anyway. Your work is a real inspiration. Oh, well, and you finally bullied me into ordering Poser 5. :-)

Wow, You are just too critical of your perfect render. I like the eyes even with the seam between the specular, the modelling work done is zbrush is great I specially like those ears. Excellent :)

The expression brings this image to life, and the realism you achieved is fantastic. I am a fan of your shaders and you show us here what is possible.
