Description

Here is something a bit different from my Halfling series. This is a close up of the entry way into a medieval guard house. This is a part of Medieval Village Volume 2. The open "bridge" which is behind the camera goes straight out, so its possible to join two of these to make a combined fortification. Im sharing this now because Im thinking about how a halfling would come up with a fortification that is also pleasing to the halfling eye.

This is a great medieval structure! From the J.R.R.T. perspective, its hard to say how halflings would go about this, because his halflings never did. From the books we learn that the hobbits, being peaceful and pastoral, sought out a home that was safe and beautiful. They never were over-ridden by any enemies with any frequency, and in their communitie's most martial time, "The Scouring of the Shire" they blocked roads with overturned mule/horse drawn-style waggons and carts. For a model designed for anyone rendering a scene from say a fantasy roll playing game where a more militant community of halflings exist, I would suggest: the structure be lower and thicker-walled rather than very tall. a series of iron grill gates with detail and design leading to a stout large round door, a circular tunnel leading to another large round door with a murder room above. an almost non-military meal quarters. larger larders than would be expected, larger kitchen, many fires, and perhaps even a smoking room (bringing a little touch of pure Tolkein into it, with this attention to halflings deep deep love for food and the comforts of a pipe) The outside of the structure, during peaceful times, would perhaps be maintained/manicured with a bit of garden? the front walls, gates, could perhaps be painted to match flowers and plants among them. Cant wait to see what you produce :)

I like this a lot. very Morrrowind if you know what I mean. My only critique is that the POV makes the floor look a little flat. If you had some bumb on the stones on the floor then the POV kind of flattened it. Maybe displacement would work. But still way better than my crap.

This is absolutely AMAZING!!. The windows seem strange, thou. If it's a guard house, they're suppose to be smaller, so the guards won't get hit... like the old castles.
