Description

This should be called. The sheperdess, the horseman, the mushroom-hunter and the widow. It's terrible quality I know, because I think I spilt a cup of tea on it once. I don't know enough about touching up yet to fix it. We had all been chatting and laughing and when I got the camera out they froze into formality. Thank you very much for previous comments.

I know how people freeze when they are to be photographed!! The forced smile appears and you dont know what to do!! Considering all that, this is a very good picture!

Country folk are the same everywhere, Rozanne. The four would fit in in Argyll, or Prestatyn, or Ballycastle, or Taunton, or anywhere in France. or Spain or Italy etc.The weathered, wary faces. The warm, welcoming hearts, but point a camera at them and they become like graven images. I used to sit around my gran's or her neighbours' ranges ( big black enamelled combination fire, cooker and hotplate ) listening to their stories, going back generations, sometimes centuries. Yet as an adult they would not easily talk with me about their heritage, afraid to be mocked or laughed at by someone who was educated. ( My grandfather reckoned that the more educated you became, the more ignorant you became ). They had a lot to teach me. Regards, John.

I guess that explains why they froze. I've known these people for over twenty years!
