Jim Tetlow
Born 1974, UK
I like ambiguity in art. Uncertainty. What has to conform to the limits of our reality? Metal, glass and flesh can merge seamlessly, as if the surreal worlds and the life forms within are one and the same, and yet at odds sometimes. I rarely seek to endow my works with any "message". I am more interested in people's personal responses.
I'm a multimedia artist working in fine art (including sculpture), digital art, graphic design and various forms inbetween, also illustrating book covers and numerous CD covers. I also work in musical soundscaping, both solo and in group projects, of which there are many releases. I'd like to say a big thanks to everyone here who has supported me in my work and beyond since I began posting in June 2001. Too many to mention, you all know who you are... I'm meeting very special people here :-)
Update 01-08-05: I've been given a 4 page feature article in Issue 3 of the new media magazine Contour based in Atlanta, Georgia. The images printed very well and they did me proud.
Update 21-03-06: I've been spending the last 6 months living in New South Wales, Australia. Inspiring place! Also in the process of illustrating the book covers for a series of Japanese books called Hikishio no Toki (Time of the Ebb Tide) by Mayumura Taku - to date I've completed the first two of the five volumes. I've recently been returning to traditional media as well as producing the usual digital art, and contributed a sculptural canvas to a recent local exhibition. Link: Saatchi Gallery webspace
Update 09-01-21: I hadn't even logged in for some years. It's weird nipping back here after not even posting for 13 years, like revisiting your old school incognito. As I'm not active here anymore I wonder if anyone will even see this again besides me.

Better than most, not as good as some. There's no mistaking your style. Looking forward to seeing what your new PC does for you.

Thanks guys :-) Maybe one day I'll like this one ;-)

I really like it. The sort of thing Da Vinci would doodle if given photoshop to play with for a few hours. I like the subtle suggestion of technology and its certain bleakness.

i think this is really flipping sweet. personally i would darken the color, but the green allows you to see some of the details that you would miss otherwise. real nice stuff.

I don't really like the colour choice, tis a bit insipid for my tastes, but the image within is very interesting and Da Vinciesque. Thank you so much for sharing hugs

You Get An Oscar For This One Jim. You Got You Own Stlye That You Can Call Your Own! Perfection In Your ImaginationVOTE

I really like it Jim, the way the different stylistic elements come together works for me. The colour does throw me off though, somehow it just doesn't seem to gel with the content or style, still very cool imho ; )

Going or coming? Leaving or staying? Trusting or turning back? Hoping, disappointing? Between. I really like the mood here. And I love those hopeful green glows! The perfection of circle tries to include everything inside but happily at least the music can come out. Staying in perfecteion or leaving for new experiences? I think you choice of the colour has the answer :-) Impressive and thought provoking picture once again, Jim! Thanks. with hugs :-)

hmmm... well i don't know - i guess i'll have to admit - the color isn't really mine too... at this point... i like the figures and the play that they to while watching them... titta found nice words for this... :) seems to be an image of contrasts... even though you haven't explicitely worked with them... bside that - i hope you're feeling well and you'll have fun with your new computer... and inspiration comes by itself - normally...

I've been looking at this for sometime, and at first I didn't know what to think, then the idea of stasis came to me, like waiting for the action, perhpas the figure is isolated from the action around it? (but yes the colour is difficult), I like it when I have to think :-)

I'm not sure what u mean by "lack of focus" cos it looks god damn sharp to me! That's even the first thing that stroke me here! I thought it was another one of ur CD cover at first! It's very much in that vein IMHO! ;)
Synapse
I meant "lack of focus" as in there's nothing for the eye to settle on, everything more or less demands equal attention ;-)

Like this very interesting piece. It shows a unique style

...mi piace moltissimo, bella composizione e equilbrio di colori! ... v

Well, I love it! There's a figure with outstretched arms to focus on, so I disagree with you there, Jim ;-) A number of people have difficulty with the colour, but I'd guess that a slight desaturation might be all it needs. Reminds me of the green liquid found in spirit levels... Anyway, welcome back! Must get round to sending you something for our next collab. pic. No, I haven't forgotten :)

looks like it's made out of shards of green bottle glass... if i touch it would it cut?

Well Jim, I think this image is excellent. Often when you say you're not sure about one of your picks it turns out to be something realy special. It is always good to mix up different styles - you end up with a hybrid that is greater than the sum of its parts. I hope all these comments have changed your mind about it. vote

a new pc? that's why this looks so luminous maybe :)

wicked bro, like the way it flows!!!

You know, it is strange Jim... I can actually see in this that you were not as focused as usual... maybe a bit distracted. The only reason that I say so is because when I look into your creations there is a deep meaning that I can somehow focus on. This looks really cool bro, but that focus does not grab me in the same way. I still think that this work stands tall so I hope that you are thinking that I am criticizing it... I most certainly am not. I can definitely envision this as a CD cover. It still bears your characteristic depth of vision. Oh, by the way... back in my drinking days Guinness was by far my favorite. Not many of my fellow American buddies could hang with it though (lightweights!).
