Description

The EA-3B from the National Vigilance Park, Fort George G. Meade, MD. This aircraft is painted in the colors, and with the tail number, of an EA-3B which crashed during a carrier landing killing all aboard the aircraft. Talking with guys who flew in these things, they were not fun to be in. The standard joke was first one out is the last one out. They did not glide well. Also the aircraft started out as a tactical nuclear bomber. A role made obsolete by Polaris missiles. Also, if some folks could be trusted, by its design: the idea was to toss the bombs during an Immelman turn but the engines would sometimes follow the bomb. Not sure how true that is/was, but not good. In its day, this aircraft was the largest aboard aircraft carriers and was nicknamed "the whale." The USAF knew it as the B-66. Official Navy nickname: Skywarrior. Enjoy; meditate; thanks for viewing.

Quite interesting. Using the bench for perspective, it does look a bit large for a carrier deck. Thanks for sharing that.

Dear Jo, as equally stunning as the C-130. Was this also known as the Prowler? I'm probably confused with another EA aircraft (6 maybe?) Beautiful wotk - the old and the colors really create a sense of serenity in it's final resting space. Love, Meredith
