Description

This was a hard-to-get quick snap through a window of a shy subject, so please don't judge the photographic skill... I just thought people might enjoy seeing my colorful but not-too-smart friend Charlie Cardinal, who every morning at dawn and every night at dusk bashes himself into my window a few dozen times in a determined effort to get through the glass...my first entry to the photo gallery here.

I for one think its a great shot considering you obviously had to act quick. The only thing I would have done is to crop so you don't get any of the frame and not so much of the tree above and to the left of him - but that's just my beginners opinion. I amazed he keeps coming back!!

I love this picture, too. Maybe a little more contrast would make the red come out a bit more, but hey .. I'm no pro either. There are a million and one things one can do with any picture... the possibilities are endless. I hope your beautiful friend doesn't wind up breaking his neck in one of his crashes .. that would be so sad. Enjoy, and have a great day!!! :)

In response to Wolfspirit --- I have tried repeatedly to block up the windows or chase him off, all to no avail -- he's determined!! He seems pretty resilient and uninjured, just frustrated.

heck, just let him in! :-) He might decide he likes it better out there! Glass is a sad thing for birds. Truly sad. I understand many birds that migrate at night fly into tall buildings misguided by the bright lights. Sad indeed.

Just for further information, after watching him and his mate (for some time before this photo) the only plausible explanations are that he (A) is interested in gaining access to a protected area (the house interior) or (B) is challenging his own reflection as a rival -- neither of which I can do much about. It's not one single window, it's every window in the house. Again -- he doesn't seem to hit with enough force to injure himself. He's just a determined little bugger with some frustrated bird-goal. During the day he and his mate feed amongst the bushes all around my rural home, hiding from hawks.

what a cute and silly little guy, Ken!!!! I love to watch birds!!! you know what i used to do to keep the birds from bashing into my windows? i put those peel on & off stickers on the inside...you know...the ones that cling and come right off...that people can see from the outside. well, the birds can see them too!!! If it's just one window he keeps banginin' into, you might give it a try!!! birds are verrrry hard to photographic!!! you did great!
