Description
This is Iyari Sindra Cemara, an RPG character of mine that I play in a Star Trek-RPG. She is a very soft and shy Lareyu, a member of a violet-blooded species.
The Lareyu are very polite and have strict traditions regarding especially the role allocation between man and woman. As an example, women aren't allowed to use swords - it's the men who have to defend them. Some things are still like in the middle age of earth: The male descendants are very important for the family. There are districts that are ruled by lords who live under a king, and sometimes these lords fight for their lordship.
Iyari's father was the lord of a little county in the mountains. He teached his daughters to fight because his county became involved in a war between two neighbors. But he was killed in battle while he protected his family, and Iyari was badly injured and fell into a coma.
Starfleet medicine saved her almost a year later, but she wasn't the perfect Lareyu anymore: she continued her training with weapons and she had become very solitary.
Her brother advised her to take part in an exchange between the Lareyu and Starfleet, and Iyari accepted, knowing that she didn't fit into the Lareyan society anymore. Now, five years later, she works as a security officer on a space ship. She is still shy and very quiet, she may seem to be a petite and graceful young woman - but it's better not to forget that she is also a fighter, and one shouldn't underestimate her strength in combat.

Your text doesn't scare me at all, even though I've got a question regarding the fact that you describe the Lareyu as a violet-blooded species... should her skin not be somewhat more in line with that shade of color? I mean, the Andorian who have blue blood are all blue, the Vulcans and Romulans, green-blooded of course, have a shade of green to their skin also, but I'm missing it in this picture, noticing that particular feature only when looking at the lips and the eyelids. Regarding the species of the Lareyu as a whole, their society appears to be quite interesting. You've already pointed out the most obvious parallel, but the fact that this form of government has prevailed even through technological advancement (which is required for having contact with Starfleet, and even an exchange program working, is fascinating from a sociohistorical point of view.

You're right about the skin colour in some regards - although I wanted to keep her quite human-looking. The Vulcans usually just have a shade of green in their skin (Romulans are a different matter, as they changed their make-up, it's much more olive), and I tried to achieve that slight coloration with coloured lighting instead of colouring the skin itself. Maybe the effect was a bit too weak, but I still kinda like the outcome ;) And as for their development - their technological status differs from area to area on the planet. While the cities have access to advanced technology, the rural areas are a good deal behind, and much more attached to traditions. And even the Warp-drive was developed only a short time ago... I didn't want to create a second Earth, and since I'm a fantasy-fan, I took some pieces out of both to create the Lareyu. Their development may not be entirely comprehensable - I'm no sociologist - but I don't see why they should have had to change ;) Thanks for your interest and your input, in any case!
