Description

Thought I'd have a go at something closeup for a change and the alien plants seemed to fit the bill quite well. I first rendered this using DOF but wasn't happy with the roughness of the blurring even though the quality settings were high. So I rendered the scene again with no DOF and used the depth map that gets automatically rendered as a mask in Photoshop CS and used the camera blur filter to add DOF manually. A nice bonus is that with DOF the render took 4 hours (GI, superior @1600x1200) but without it only took 1 hour :-)

Agree with Othosmops, very phorealistic. I tend to agree with you about DOF within Vue, it is not satisfying and slow. Using the z buffer is the best option, as we can see here.

an exotic collage of colors. at first i thought of a coral reef underwater. excellent concept and vision to see it through. i agree with the comments about vue. even though you go for the best quality it offers, it comes up short many times. i give a vote for your artistry, concept and vision. v
