Description

I started off using global illumination but after 4% done it was still forecasting 78 hours so I changed to global ambience and used a radiance plugin in Photoshop CS to add atmosphere - total time for this was 1 hour 10 minutes at 1600x1200 (user settings). Rendered in Vue 5 esprit. Thanks for looking in - comments are always welcome :-)

Great light. The image is a little lifeless though... Try adding some details to the beach (eg. small vegetation beneath the palm trees)

Ugh 78 hours is a bit much. but this image looks really fantastic here in global ambiance. Lovely one!

It does look very good, but the boat would've looked even bette with radiosity, probably 156 more hours!(lol) 78h is very long, when I use GI or GR, I generally set the quality boost from -1 to -0.5, and the advance effects boost to 50%. It then generally takes a night to render, depending of the materials used.

Beautiful Scene!!! I've found that the counter on Vue isn't always correct.

Generally I use half of what the counter says as a guideline but 40 hours was still too long as I needed to get on with something else (lol). The boat and poser model were definitely clearer using GI (I did a small test render) but for the mood of the scene I decided that clarity in the foreground wasn't essential.

excellent mood in this scene. i agree about the global illumination, too impractical. however you acomplished a great render and excellent clarity. my favorite part is the atmosphere. excellent image.

Great result with that lighting, it has a nice soft glow to it. Well done to discover a quicker way to get nice lighting.

I love the backlighting - both the boat, and the vegetation. The scene is gorgeous. Steve, you're mastering this program very quickly!

Love the depth and sense of space in the compo.. (maybe a fringe of darker wet sand along the shoreline would look nice ? ) great work!

Beautifully serene and magical. I think your lighting techniques look wonderful. A "clearer foreground" in my opinion would have looked less realistic and subtracted from the overall ambience of the scene. What a great cut back on render time, too! Best of both worlds, here. There is hardly anything I can see to improve except perhaps the bottom of the palm trees in the sand. Perhaps some blurring, shadowing and painting of grasses in Photoshop would enhance realism and eliminate uniformity. Beautiful. Vote.
