this oak is is very large. I can just try to show you with these photos how large it is. The bottom one is from a diff angle and was pasted thought two diff filters. this is in front of Fredrick Larued Gateds home He lived from 1827 to 1897 in New Ibreae, La. he was a districk judge in the 1870's to 1880', and he develped a cotton seed oil business which was a meajor enterprised in the area. I wonder how old this tree is. There was a similar one in Blue Springs Park in Florida that I always loved. The combination of the spreading form and the Spanish moss is certainly a sign of the majesty of the South, really great shot!

The Duir the celtic name of the oak. It is a tree of enormous strength; you cannot drive a nail into it once its heartwood is aged. Oak forest was the climax of ecological succession in Europe after the Ice Age, giving rise to a host of dependent plant and animal species. The Latin name for the acorn is glans, and the tree,s masculine beauty is often noted. The wood burns long and was preferred for ritual fires at Summer Solstice. Oaks grow very old, with roots as great as the branches. Jock this is a great photo mate...Excellent!!!...:)
