Description

This is a thistle.I use to go in the woods and get food out there . I guess everyone did at one time of they lives. If not you will know with a thistle you can take the leaves and make a potherb and when you cut the spines off the leaves you can make a good salad. The sterms you peel and cut in short sections and boiled makes a good vegetable of very excellent quality. The roots can be eaten raw or cooked; not as tasty. There a lot of books out there to do this type of thing. One very good rule to know if you going to get food in the wild. #1. if you donot know what it is do not eat it. There things out there that will kill you. Or make your touge swell up [happen to me, but not to much; just telling me to remember rule #1 thanks for looking and commenting and votes oh I think every one blackberry pick one time . This is the same just diff food.

I didn't know you could eat thistle! We have Polk here....it is kind of a weed that can only be eaten certain times of the year. Me??? I don't take chances. Wish I knew all of that stuff, though. I am sure some day it would come in handy.

Wonderful informative image & post. I didn't know they could be eaten, then again I'm used to getting my food at the local market. There's a lot of stuff out there that's edible. I notice it whenever I go to Chinatown.

It demands some knowledge to eat what can be found outdoors but once knowing it's a joy to collect edible things in nature!
