My name is Paul, I live in Adelaide (Australia), and I'm just about to hit the big four-o. I spend way too much time using 3d applications like Poser and ZBrush2. Being a (no-postwork) realism nut, I have developed a number of realism tools for Poser, and the skin shader scripts for Poser are avaialble here at Renderosity.BIOA couple of useful links...

generally, the image looks abit too washed out (tiny bit more shadows maybe?), and the lip corners look weird, but that's Jessi's fault lol teeth need more saliva (specular) too, maybe. btw, i welcome crits myself, i'm still new to p6 :)

Looks great. Fun to hear that you are delving into the technical aspects of P6 already. Can you make a shadow map using diffuse lights and apply that shadow map to this image? I don't know if you can render like that in P6 or not. I know you can't in P5....grrr Cheers

first off, great! IBL can be a pain and a wonder to work with! to the crits : shadows (lack there of) are what break this image, the highlights on the skin are great, but are not backed up by a darkening of the opposite angle that the highlights are coming from. you could also try upping the texture resolution for the IBL (if its a complex image) to get more detail into the IBL diffuse lighting... overall great work though

I think around the eyes looks fantastic... the lower eyelids and below the eyebrow. It's the teeth and lack of shadows? or proper lighting where the realism factor drops off for me. Also the nose looks a little "soft". Love your work though... keep it up! :)

I have never seen Poser teeth look so good. I love the blurred depth of field look also!

I love it when you do your experiments...helps us all!!! My very uneducated opinion is nature of the shadows...or lack there of, really stand out to me. Being an ex-photographer I've noticed that even in highly diffused light situations the shadows will still mold the face... Its really hard to have no shodowing unless, you're in the studio doing something like Robert Maplethorpe multiple softbox lighting setups. Nice work Paul! -jay

I think it looks really good!

I think it looks great, The highlight along her face is great but I also agree that more shadows at the left of her face will greatly increase the realism. It's a great Idea of using the script to create matching specular lights for the Ibl enviroment. I am also interested to know if shadows work on specular only lights, which I think they should not. I hope you get those lights working with the hair as well. Nice job.

Face_off! This image looks awesome, glad you had a chance to use the IBL I sent you....As Mahna stated, those teeth are beyond kewl, but then again you do such wonderful things to textures.... my only critique would be similar to Jay7347, you do need some shadow areas for a natural looking shot. talk to you soon ~m

I almost missed this one, Face_off. The skin looks really good, as do the teeth. I think I would have liked to see more depth to the eyes, however. The iris appears a bit to flat and dark for this close up. At that angle, I'd expect to see some hint of reflections and depth to the eyes, especially with that level of specularity. The lips also look a bit flat, and could use a bit of moisture as it does appear she is wearing lipstick, which makes lips shiny compared to the overall skin on the face. I really like this experiment! I wonder if all the extra lights were actually necessary though... couldn't a couple spec-only point lights, without shadows, be strategically placed to accomplish the same effect? Great work!!

While my keyboard gently weeps...Check your res on the eyes. They seem too crisp for this skin. They need a tad of red and an AO blur around the contact to skin area. I like where this is going...many outdoor shots have no shadows with all the bounced light going on. You really got the teeth.

Excellent render. The expressions and teeth are superb.
