Description

- Scotland, Loch Duich, Dornie - When reaching the romantic Eilean Donan Castle in Loch Duich near Dornie I could see the tourists escape from the heavy rain. So I could take a shot without people. But I also was disappointed to get to this wonderful place and having such a bad weather again. ;o( It is the most photographed castle in Scotland. It sits on a small island, reached only by a stone bridge and is truly a picturesque setting. The wind there carries a myriad of tales of MacRaes, MacKenzies and many a warrior in its wisper. Movies: "Highlander", "Braveheart", "James Bond - Tomorrow never dies" und "Rob Roy". ****************************** History: The castle has had a rather chequered past. Originally built in 1220 by Alexander II as a defence against the Vikings, it subsequently became a stronghold of the Mackenzies of Kintail (later the Earls of Seaforth) who installed the MacRaes as hereditory keepers. Then in 1719, it was destroyed whilst acting as a garrison for Spanish troops fighting for the Jacobite cause on behalf of the 5th Earl of Seaforth. Restoration work was only started two hundred years later and not completed until 1932. ****************************** Die Urspr

I think the rain besides driving the people away added to the picture quality. Great shot as always.

Wow! Your shot and finish work is so excellent here. You've captured the romantic mood so beautifully, and the castle itself is fantastic. I love the slightly choppy sea and the mist-shrouded mountains. What an amazing place!

This is what I've been waiting to see a picture of - a castle! What a wonderful location this is and actually, I think the hard weather adds character to the photo - most you see are sunny days and they all look the same.

Rita, I do not know how I missed this most magical piece. It just stands out. The textures, colors, and the mood are just beautiful and send you back in time. Wish I could see it for real, but since I probably will never get to this is wonderful!

Die diesige Atmosphäre um diese Mauern herum passen total gut. Es sieht so schön rauh und schottisch aus. Tolles Bild Rita
