Its easy to forget that before the first overthrow of Lolth, the Drow were just what legend and ghost stories claimed they were, evil and despicable creatures, driven to the insanity of self destruction by the Spider Goddess. The time is not that far past that we can afford to forget it. And still, there are those of the old regime, clinging to mad hopes of a second resurrection of their Goddess. In the interim, they have found a new God to give them power, a male spider God. The angst this must cause the older worshippers of Lolth is perhaps ironic justice. In their gynarchy, they were supreme. Now they are hunted. They are the prey that males had once been under their cruel command. But don't think them lessened for their circumstance. They are still vicious and dangerous.

But in those days not so long ago, back in the bad old days,... they were a thing to behold. They held a hateful beauty, a majesty of corruption, a perfection of vice unparalleled. Never forget how absolute was their evil, how rampant was their chaos, how swift their vacillating justice. If they ever succeed at bringing Lolth back from nothingness a second time, the rule of the Drovikallum will be wiped from memory. Then, even the surface world will pay for their part in Her downfall. Always watch the shadows, my young apprentice. They move when you're not looking.
