Description

'Furnace Nr. 1, North~West Corner' Duo-tone ~ March 23, 2005 Comments: Yesterdays photograph, 'NAW1 VINE Hi', is the main room where the compressors power the machinery. The large fire brick structure in today's image is the furnace that heats the water for the compressors. As I have noticed greater amount of recent destruction and changes to the outside fences that are to secure the premises, I have learned from two different sources that the structure is going to be demolished within the next two weeks. So for now I plan to make a trip to the factory each day fro an hour or so until the two memory sticks fill up or the battery runs out. It might be noted that since mid January I have photographed about seven structures, not including the factory, which have been demolished since. Just a thought. Technical Information: CAMERA: Sony DSC-V1, Aperature priority setting to f-8, ISO100, EV -.07, Tripod LIGHT: Natural PHOTOSHOP NOTES: Adjustment in Auto Contrast, Auto Levels , Levels and Curves. Conversion to B&W in Channel Mixer/RGB mode. Duo-tone settings have curve alterations and the secondary colour is R151/G132/B115. Final adjustment in brightness/contrast. Thank you for your visit Vielen dank f

Wow, that is simply outstanding. What cool textures, and what a crisp and clear photo. The details are stunning, just the perfect tone. Elegant and tasteful presentation as well. Great job!!! Have a great day #:O)

an abandoned dynamite factory....hmmmm...well, i'm a huge fan of abandoned places...the older they are, the more run down they are, the better! i can understand why you want to take as many pics as you can before it's demolished, and i thank you for showing the beauty of this place that most would just pass by. i enjoy the perspective here, as well as the detail on the bricks. i know this is gonna sound a bit "off the wall" (no pun intended!) but when i look at this my first thought was of the Holocaust...i guess because of that shower head on the left. i dunno, i got the shivers here, having these visual images of people being led to their deaths. obviously the image had quite an impact on me, although i'm sure not what you intended. i've looked at this for a long time trying my best to see and feel something else...doesn't happen. sorry. it's a powerful image that has left me a bit shaken.

Simply love this series.... are you worried about getting in trouble for trespassing? I have a friend who is in the process of going into a couple of abandoned mental institutions..... Both are in the process of being demolished and yet she's still risking being arrested..... Fascinating stuff Egmont.

That is the least of my fears. What are they going to do, throw away the key for taking photographs that may have historical value in thirty years. I think the judge and the district attorney would look silly try to prosecute. There is a rule to be observed when trespassing, just make sure not have tools that indicate that your the own who broke the lock. No tools, no way that they can prove one forced their way in. I always manage to find an opening, for an open door or window is an invitation to enter. It is to be noted, a person seriously photographing will always be tolerated in most cases, for we are not dumping garbage or vandlizing the property. We are just documenting a time and place.

I am glad you are recording these vanishing places for posterity Egmont. This one answeres the question, "What's around the next corner." :) I hope you manage to avoid incarceration as well -- I'm sure if you show any law enforcement your photos they'd let you be on your way. ;)
