Description

Well our Vacation was short but it was excellent..First day drove south and crossed the southern tip of the sierras thru the green horn mountains..we had never taken this route and found it to be one of the most beautiful drives ever..just as green and full of wildflowers and pristine views as you could ask for..came out at lake Isabella and then headed up 395 to the Alabama Hills just below Mt.Whitney..luckily the dirt roads in this Valley had just been graded so we took my little Honda Del Sol on an adventure both of us will never forget..we drove about forty miles in the dirt and ended up way up the ridges to some wonderful vantage points...the Alabama Hills have had many movies filmed there.from treasures of the sierra madre with humphrey bogart to the star trek episode with the giant lizard man and capt Kirk Making a bazooka out of bamboo, diamonds and some homemade gunpowder.between me and my wife we took close to 500 pictures..this was the fav from my pictures.we spent the night in Bishop and had planned to drive over highway 88 to get home but it snowed that night and closed the pass to my little car with no chains..so we roughly went home the way we came except we went up the coast thru big sur and Monterey.my little Honda with its Vtec engine got better than 40 miles to the gallon.maybe we will get to the desert next time..hope you enjoy..

Glad you like my home! I was in Bishop yesterday. I live just north of there and that's where todays post was taken. If you ever get a chance to visit the Lone Pine Film Festival (fall) it's a real kick! Love the picture and come back and visit again soon!

Beautiful!!!! I am so glad that you two had a good time. Adventures like yours are grand. I think it's the best way in the world to travel, just kick back and drive,no set schedule, etc. Did I ever tell you I live in beautiful British Columbia, I think our mountians just may hold a candle to this shot, close but compariable. Excellent++++

This is an amazing picture... There's a lot of mood an athmosphere in here! great shot, I love the graininess here too and the way the hills are softened and dissappear into the clouds... Have a great day!

Wow! What a breathtaking roadtrip, Bill! I wish I could just take off and forget abot everything for a few days and enjoy the majestic nature all around us. Perhaps I'll drive 15 minutes and go to the beach for awhile this weekend to reflect, after all, that's why I'm paying the big bucks! lol! Can't wait to see more gorgeous natural images from your trip! Thanks for sharing, Bill! Superb photo!

Dear Bill, I'm jealous of course!! Only thing I saw was this computer monitor!! That is incredibly beautiful country. It's always amazed my of the proximity of Mt. Whitney and Death Valley - highest and lowest. And people wonder why California tires to shake itself apart at times! I love Big Sur and Monterey, too. I, of course, would have had to check out the shops in Carmel! I hope we get the chance to see some more of your road trip. You live in one of the most beautiful spots on Earth. Love, Meredith
