Description

Built in Preston in 1905, Johannesburg tramcar number 60 starred in several film and TV productions and was one of the initial order of 100 such trams built by the Electric Railway and Tramway Carriage Works (from late in 1905 renamed as the United Electric Car Company) at Preston, England between 1905 and 1907. They were shipped to Johannesburg in parts and assembled there. The last tramcar to run in Johannesburg ran on 18th March 1961. A number of were preserved and of the four-wheelers car number 20 (with other types) was kept in Johannesburg at the James Hall Museum of Transport and car number 60 is at the National Tramway Museum at Crich in England. Toning is all down to personal preference, but the reason I chose to do these is that the slides/transparencies have changed colour, badly in some cases. Colorized in PSP

Of all the crimes committed by the Brits - the worst is probably putting vinegar on chips (Go to Belgium: moules et frites w/mayonnaise)

Well sir, first a super shot you've given a great historical feel. Next one must wonder if those things ever tipped over. Finally, you have no corner on the bad weather market, here in normally sunny Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA it's done little but rain... I believe you'd feel quite at home.

Nice framing on the tram, the scan has worked well to bring out the details of the wires - and hardly any dust!
