Hello...
For this photo I relied on the camera's LCD manual exposure assitance scale and set the shutter speed till it was in the middle(optimum exposure). This scale is an approximation. The original picture was not quite as bright as I would have liked. I did some post work in PS6 to brighen it up a bit using the levels tool. I also used the selective color tool's brighten slider on one of the mid-range white colors. When taking pictures in the future perhaps I should also play closer attention to the camera's LCD histogram, and make appropriate adjustments, whatever those may be. I have heard through the grapevine(I think it was something I read in the Photography Forum...by Sheila...:-) that for a typical well balanced/exposed shot the histogram reading should peak near the middle of the horizontal scale, and should be somewhat symetrical, like a little mountain. I heard (If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I heard it through the same grape vine of Sheila :-) that by making the appropriate Fstop/Shutter speed adjustements one can achieve such a typically optimum histogram reading. I don't know the rule of thumb for this...I must have read it, and already forgot. Perhaps the information got lost somewhere in my subconcience, or I have a defective memory chip. Where was I...oh yeah...I was and am thinking that for this picture I may have tried using a slighty slower shutter speed. My camera doesn't let me use +_EV in manual mode, so shutter speed adjustment is all I can think of. Prob. more experimentation is my best bet, but I always will take advice from you more experienced people. I promise I will not forget. ;-)
Thanks for looking...Your time spent looking, comments/suggestions on any aspects of any of my postings, from technical, to composure, to whatever is always much appreciated. I've only had this camera for about three months now, and feel I am very much a beginner photographer, but I have been experimenting, and slowly learning some basics. I had been using a cool full-auto camera till I got this other not as simple cool camera. ...:-)
-Peace :-)

this is GORGEOUS, Jeff!!! looks to me like you captured the colors perfectly!!! and you got fabulous detail!!! i love the POV too! looks like a living wreath! i think your settings were perfect here!!! yep...my understanding of that histogram thing is to have it look like a mountain in the of the scale. i don't remember too many rules of thumbs...i DEFINITELY have a defective memory chip!!!! LOL! (Seriously!) :) i luv to experiment too and still have so much to learn!!!! and i'm having a problem with histograms...i'm finding that i don't always agree with them! LOL! (i'll post something in forum in a minute). Anyway, i say you nailed this one! i wish i could give you some constructive criticism but i can't. i just experiment...not experienced enough to know things for certain. with this one i might have tried closing my appeture just a bit more...maybe an f-stop of 3-4 to darken it just a bit. dunno what effect that would have though. you did a fabulous job with this jeff!!!!
