Description

~View from Walla Crag (1)~ Sincere thanks for your kind messages on 'Oops!!'. It's great to be posting something scenic again after the minor traumas of the past week. About a 2 mile walk from my favourite hotel near Castlerigg is Walla Crag, which in itself is not very impressive at only 1200 or so feet, but the views from the top are among the best in the Lake District. Here you can see Derwentwater & Bassenthwaite Lakes, the westernmost edge of Keswick town, followed by the villages of Portinscale (centre) & Braithwaite (left). During the heavy rains at the start of the year (which cut off Carlisle from the outside world), their was so much flooding here that the two lakes merged to become one. I'm just glad I was 200 miles away at the time! EOS20D, 17-40L @35mm, F7.1, 1/125s, ISO 100. Many thanks for views & comments. ..Steve..

Without the rain there would be no Lake District, but it must have been frightening for the inhabitants. Excellent shot!!!

Wonderful capture Steve ! As nice as it is to live near a lake or river, sometimes you can get into pretty much trouble there. I would like to have this house on the isle as my weekend house. The white dots (I guess sheeps) look like someone had some golf training ;-)
