Description

A temporary change of direction! Spent about 20 minutes following this hoverfly around the garden last Sunday, trying to catch him in mid-air, focussing manually as he's far too small to get AF-lock. It was fun trying to shoot macro with a big zoom lens! I took 10 shots, this was the only one in focus... Dedicated to all the macro lovers out there - too much patience required for me, I think this will be my last! EOS 20D, 100-400L @400mm (about 6 feet away) 1/800, F8, ISO 800. Have a great weekend! ..Steve..

Superb bit of photography - seen similar shots before, this is a good one. Great detail and some wing showing with the added bonus of a colourful background.

haha patience sure is a necessary quality.. Bravo on this sharp image in flight, has to be manual for this type of action due to the slow speed of the big tele Keep em coming and save up those pennies
