Description

Here is another one in the dark on the beach. Originally, I wasn't going to upload this since it came out grainy. But I really like the colors. I think I know what I did wrong when taking the shot. So...you tell me if you can, how to fix it better in Photoshop? Any honest (leaning towards kind!) comments would only HELP me. Isn't that what we're all here for? I mean besides the pats on the back...hint hint... Oh...p.s. I DID use a tripod. Thanks for the wonderful comments on my prior pics. Jodie :0)

Well...if you really want my honest opinion...i dont think you should try to do any PW at all on it. For some photos i think grain only adds a more interesting effect (why would there otherwise be a grain-filter in PS) and this is one of those photos. I think its really gorgeous. Love the colours in it, like you mentioned. I even think you should enter this one in the monthly challenge in the photo forum...hurry woman, you still got a couple of hours left!!!!! Have a wonderful sunday #:O)

That's a good picture. As Zacko implied you can really screw a pic while trying to improve it. As we say in France, "better is sometimes enemy of what's good". But you can try Neatimage wich is a real good PS plugin to reduce noise and is quite cheap.

Grainy is not always bad - so I would suggest stepping back and asking yourself, "Does grain hurt this?" There are some "de-noise" plugins that give varying success, but they also get rid of sharpness to some extent (though not as much as a using a blur does). Ditto for despeckle filters and so forth (as far as I know - I certainly haven't tried them all). One alternative is to use a "paint" filter to transform the picture with an oils or watercolor effect. Though this will make something quite different from a photo, and some see it as "neither fish nor foul" and therefore not legit for photos. I am afraid my attitude with photos and other art is "whatever works." :o)

its a wonderful expression. the grain adds very good in this picture. the image looks a bit underexposed to me ( i think you did brighten up the tones in Photoshop ) this express the grain a lot.what ASA did you use ? !!!!!!!!!! #:O) !!!!!!!!!!

I rather like the grain... and the coloring. Especially like how you used the streetlight color in the frame. Also, I don't know beans about postwork so can be of no help whatsoever. However must add, I agree with those who profess to be postwork minimalists (or maybe I'm too lazy to learn how to do it?)

they're right this one doesn't need it... you've lost too much detail anyway to smooth it out but best to leave as is :] makes me feel it's from an old movie

Not sure if photoshop can fix this effectivly, but the grain works in this photo pretty well. I agree with logiloglu, need to fix the exposure. If you shoot at a lower ISO setting next time, it will minimise the grain recored in your photo.
