Sweet! I dig the look. I just got a really nice pocket compass from my girlfriend, too. Is that a map of some sort underneath? Looks like a mix of wood and marble procedurals, except for what looks like letters and some pixellation in the near right corner. Great job on the metal. Not too clean and edgy, if you know what I mean. Looks real. And is that a hint of caustics? Hey wait! I can't tell which end of the needle is the north end!

I have tried to find proper words to express my feeling about this fine object but all in vain. So what I can say is this, though very simple, AWESOME!

50 minutes, and yet the image will last forever. Excellent job. Like Moebius said, I too like the rimmed edges.

50 mins of modeling, its a nice result, indeed. Congrats for the compass textures and usage of dof [although Im surprised why is that map so unsharp although it lays just under the compass!:). Congrats for the metals, again.

Woah, I just stumbled onto this and I'll give you the same bit of advise I gave Askguden: make a game. Seriously, just consider it, a point-and-click adventure game of your very own -- I'd be willing to offer my services in HTML and Javascript programming if you wanted to put it on the internet, I'm making one for myself anyway. You rule!
