Description
I needed a break from building all of the Star Wars models for the EP III so I put this together on a whim.(I have 2 jedi fighters an ARC and most of a new Star Destroyer) I got the free version of the Galleon from right here on Renderosity from jedswindells. a bit of photoshop and now I am ready for coments on how to fix it.

awwww shucks you guys, y'all are too nice. Thanks! I really was trying to capture the look of the old heavy oil paintings, so I guessed I succeeded a little.

Nice! Very painterly, and the effects look great. Smoke clouds everywhere!

Fantastic! I think that the water is too calm for the sails to that billowed, maybe make it just a little more choppy? Great effect for the smoke and flames.

Peggy is right...the sails would be hanging loose and almost slack against the masts, if there was no wind. And, if there was no wind, the ships would not be moving, therefore both ships at this close range would have much more extensive damage showing, since both would be slugging it out pointblank range. A few more shot holes in the sails too. Oh, and since there would appear to be no wind (the water is not lively enough to show us the viewer that there is any wind), a LOT more smoke would be hanging around both ships, like a dirty fog, since there would be no wind to blow it away. Make a couple of water spouts from falling shot more pronounced. You have the right idea about the sail configuration. (usually the lowest sails would be furled to lessen the possibility of sparks from the guns or exploding, burning debris catching the canvas sails on fire) So far a good effort. As I have directed others who do nautical renders, checkout this site for artists who paint maritime scenes with extensive research and accuracy: www.scrimshawgallery.com/Online Gallery/Paintings and Prints...and look over the art of Geoff Hunt, Geoffery Hubband, Charles Vickery, and others for ideas, etc. that you might use in this kind of render.
