Description

Canon EOS 10D, Canon 100-400L IS lens with 36mm extension tube ISO 400, 1/800 second at f6.3, handheld with fill flash I took about 20 photos of this bird before I got the one I wanted. This is the most colorful Roseatte Spoonbill I have seen yet. Normally the adults have the bright red markings on the top of their wings, but this is the first time I have seen one with the bright orange markings on the head. These birds move around quickly, swinging their bill from side to side in the water they fish for food. It took many tries before I got this photo beause they always seem to be moving. I was lucky to be focused when this one stopped for a second to rest. My new extension tubes allowed me to focus closer on this shot. I also tested them out with some macro shots of flowers. I can tell I am going to have lots of fun with them. Thank you all for your generous comments on my last upload, Great Blue Heron.
