Description

I was lucky to capture these two Sandhill Cranes near a canal recently. They are an unusal sight around these parts. I was patient enough to capture them in the opposing poses you see here before they decided to fly off. Olympus C8080 & PhotoshopCS ---- SANDHILL CRANE Grus canadensis A majestic tall long necked gray bird with white cheeks and a bald red forehead.. It is found mostly in open prairie country, but also in fields and pinelands.. The flight is an alternation of flapping and gliding with a quick upstroke of wing. They walk long distances to feed on roots, berries, small rodents, insects and frogs. The voice is a loud trumpeting vibrant honk audible for more than a mile. The courtship dance is a remarkable bowing and aerial jumping display. The Florida sandhill crane is a subspecies of the Sandhill and does not migrate. Sandhill crane breed from eastern Siberia to Hudson Bay south to Florida and Cuba. They lay two large eggs in a grassy pond nest. Identification Tips:

I not only agree with Tedz comment as to a 'stance for a dual', but I would also add the disagreements within a marriage. But lets get serious, Kort, your one lucky photographer for having caught these two cranes in their position. Jsut a wonderful image. Have a great week.

fantastic capture Kort! Maybe little more blurring of the background would have helped in "defining" more the shapes of the birds... but I like it very much! ;)
