Description
Star Wars Episode III, Revenge Of The Sith, opens in theaters today.
Thus ends the saga that started in 1977 with Episode IV, A New Hope. As a young boy in the 70's, nothing in the media influenced quite so much as the movie Star Wars. It sparked my imagination and I never tired of watching it. I had lots of the toys and played with them until the paint wore off and the character's arms fell off. I had a landspeeder, a tie fighter, a Death Star, and tons of the action figures. I coveted my friend's Millennium Falcon, but we all played together so it wasn't so bad.
George Lucas' space opera spoke of hope and triumph of good over evil, and the growth of a young boy who finds out he has special powers and can help save the galaxy. Perfect for an impressionable youngster. I can't imagine having grown up without the Star Wars movies and the characters in them as companions.
There have been 28 years of Star Wars, it will probably continue on in various formats like books, video games and television shows. Today I am more aware of the rampant commercialization that accompanies the Star Wars franchise, and am a bit more cynical about the writing of the stories and how it is all marketed. But there is still a little boy in me that looks on in wonder as a handful of heroes battle evil amongst the distant stars in a galaxy far, far away. For that, I thank you Mr. Lucas.

STAR WARS HISTORY
1975 -- George Lucas conceives of and writes the basic story of Anakin Skywalker's rise, fall and ultimate redemption. This story becomes too large for one film and Lucas divides the story into two trilogies. The first trilogy focuses on the life of a young Anakin Skywalker while the second trilogy focuses on the life of Anakin's son, Luke Skywalker. Lucas chooses to make the second trilogy first since it appears to be the most exciting one to film at the time.
Lucas offers his Star Wars films first to Universal Studios, the film company that financed American Grafitti. Universal passed on Star Wars because they considered it to be an unfathomable and silly movie idea. This decision ended up costing Universal hundreds of millions of dollars. Every single studio in Hollywood passed on the project except for 20th Century Fox. Fox gave Lucas $ 10 million to make what is perhaps the most influential film in the history of cinema. Fox released Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope in May 1977...

Looks like you're being placed under Imperial Arrest and enjoying it! By the way, on page 1 of Alan Dean Foster's 1977 novelization of STAR WARS-- "The Republic fell when a Senator named Palpatine declared himself Emperor...."

I am a Star Wars Maniac, Wacko, whatever U may call it. I watched Star Wars since I was 9 years old. I believe i seen it bout, well I dont think I have enough hair on my head as to how many times I seen it, and I aint bold either, lol. I know pretty much every scenery, every story, etc etc bout SW. This is very well done. I like the blending and the concept behind the scenery. I am with U, and May The Force Be With U. (My FAV YODA, as he can NEVER be defeated).

Just think Kort, this is one good memory that has been with us for how many years? Not many marriages even last that long! Here we are at the final chapter as we begin to party all over for the summer ahead. Excellent tribute and memory of something i have also enjoyed fully.

How many of us would be doing any computer graphics stuff if it weren't for Star Wars?
jcv2
Yeah, the commercialisation makes me a bit sick but the movies themselves are very impressive! The power of a good movie is to put well-known values into whatever the setting might be (SF was a verrry good choice) and the eternal battle between good and evil is just so recognizable! Fantastic work, Kort! Pity this is the last movie, if George Lucas doesn't change his mind....
marcfx
Your words echo mine so well!......well done
