Description


The village centres of Covenham St. Bartholomew and Covenham St. Mary run together and effectively form one village. Each has a medieval Church building but St. Bartholomew's and St. Mary's are only 100 metres apart along the main road. In the middle part of the 20th Century the practice grew up of using St. Bartholomew's (top) in the Winter and St. Mary's (bottom) in the Summer. Eventually common sense and financial necessity prevailed and St. Bartholomew's was closed and put in the care of The Churches Preservation Trust, whilst St. Mary's now serves the whole of Covenham. Both churches were built during the early part of the 14th-century. The Churchyard of St. Bartholomew is now a nature reserve and it

I especially love the top pic ... such a beautiful old church. The headstones look quite old and the grounds are so lush. Wouldn't mind a pint myself right now :-) Excellent pics

...love the top one! --- nice composition - looks like it even has another ivy coloured tree in it! -- good use of fence and branches to kind of frame the church.

nicely done Dave, the top shot is awesome! i'll bet that's pretty spooky at night! the building in the middle shot has a lot of detail and i just love the patch work of bricks in the bottom shot! very well done on all three!!!

Love the top one... the old church and small grave yard so beautifully framed! Has a fascinating mood! The building in the bottom one looks great, love the textures and the windows! And last but not least the middle one... nice place to sit for a pint!
