Description

Its almost ten years ago when Marcy and Butler announced the discovery of 2 more extra solar planets. And one of them was special, 70 Virginis B was in the right orbit to permit liquid water on this planet and its (speculated) moons and for that it recieved the nickname "Goldilocks" because the temperature was just about right. Now ten years later a whole new view of 70 Virginis b has been formed, today 70 Virginis b is classified as a Class III Jovian, the so called clarified jovians. With a surface temperature of around 200 Celsius the planet is to hot to form clouds. Rayleigh scattering (the same effect that makes our skies blue) will give these gasplanets a dark blue appearance. The picture, just after sunrise, higher up in the atmosphere where temperatures may drop to levels low enough overnight for clouds to form, they will soon evaporate when the sun climbs higher. There is no surface to be seen here, there might be a rocky core but like with almost al Jovians it is buried deep within the atmosphere. The main body of the atmosphere will lay about 100 km below this point of view, and later in the day when the clouds and fog have disappeared you will be surrounded by a blue dome, a blue sky above you and a blue sky below you.
