Description

Another sorta self-portrait in a similar vein as yesterday's, only one negative was used this time. Tradition SLR Infrared B&W photography, developing, printing and sepia toning by me. The fish in the window was a wooden sculpture, but by a trick of the light, it makes look like it is swimming in an aquarium. Scanned into Photoshop and color adjusted. This is just me having some fun experimenting with IR photography. A student photographer's best model is usually himself/herself... ;o]

first thing i focus on is you standing in the sun, seeming to welcome it in, seeming to just be ready and open to for a new day's experiences. then my eye travels to your shadow, and then around to what i find to be the most intriguing part of your image...the left side i can see the reflections in the window and door. i LOVE the shininess!! dunno how you achieved that, but i find it quite pleasing. Normally at this point, i would continue my counter clockwise movement, but this time i backtracked, noticing the flowers on the ground, the shadows, and then settling on the fish. Swimming in a world of darkness...how ironic when you are surrounded by light. i guess that's what i love about this image...it's all about opposites to me. light and dark...birth and death...day and night. i love the natural framing...how both ends are dark and the middle is so full of warmth and light. the toning is superb! i'm sorry if you wanted me to focus on the fish; i feel like i must be missing something, but for me, it's not the subject of the image. You and your shadow seem to be more the subject...ego and alter ego. the side you present to the world and then the part the few see...the part in the shadows. we all have those parts. i see this is a wonderful piece of self-study. you did a magnificent job with it!!! quite reflective and introspective, and of course, the photography is superb!

a fine figure of a man, proud & welcoming... is how i see it... the shadow & fish add interest as well as being a fine example of infrared photography! :]

A luminescent & ecstatic self-portrait - you look very natural in that setting (your pose emulates the trees) & the sepia forest setting makes me think of John Muir. Great shot.

Is that a pot plant? That would explain the fish.
