Description

This is a close-up of the Scarce Chaser. Almost all insects are very hairy at closeup-macro. When you "hunt" dragonflies you must try to become a part of their environment. You walk/move slowly and in the meanwhile study the places where they like to sit down. For the photographer there are roughly two groups of dragons: The "sitters" and the "patrolers". "Sitters" like to sit down at their favourite spots where as "patrolers" like to fly along/around there favourate place. You might like to begin with a "sitter"; if you spotted one you will probably chase it away when you approach it. Instead of chasing it any further, eager as you are, you wait! There is a chance it will return and while you wait you become a non interesting part of the environment. See what shows up, there might even land one on you. The longer (wait and observe) you can stay at sight-distance of a dragonfly the better are your chances of (slowly moving) getting within a shorter distance. A "dragonhunter" shows not much movement/interest in the beginning of the hunt! This is one way of doing it though :). Next time: equipment. PapaGuru.

You are SOOO RIGHT! These insects have their favorite spot to HANG! If you are patient enuff, and take notice, they usually land on the same branch or plant! These critters have a 6th sense and any sudden movement will make'em take off! Excellent MACRO...I just am in AWE of the DETAIL! WHOA!

when I was a kid in Okla. dragonflies and butterflies would land on your arm or hand often. They are a beautiful insect and are very graceful. excellent capture and the focus does not get any better than yours!!!!!

Wonderful mate........ this is too cool. The hair on the fly and the branch both are visible. Oh Yes........ you are right about the sitters and the patrolers...... and I would definitely agree with you on this that when u stay close to a bug you learn how to move about and conduct yourself. The same applies to Buttys too... except that in case of buttys I notice another trait that they go a bit sluggish when they are half fed.;)
