Description
I'm back up on Mauna Kea again via 4X4 wheel drive. I had brought my co-worker and hiker friend Terry up on this trip. Same Terry as from my earlier post "Brave Terry and Lava" . After 7 years in Hawaii, this is Terry's first trip up on this mountain. The elevation here is approx 13,700 ft above sea level. Aloha and thank you for viewing.

I gotta be honest and say that you kinda popped my bubble, LOL. I always pictured Hawaii to be the greenest place on earth, but your photos bring me back to reality i guess. Im aware that youre on high altitude though and there shouldnt be much vegetation there. Have a great weekend my friend #:O)

Geez, you are High up there! The thin air must have got to Terry a bit. :) What a view. Don't worry Zacko, most of what you'd see of Hawaii is green and lush. Sharky here is taking us into the "forbidden zone".... ;]

It looks very similar to Haleakala's landscape, not much grows up there!!!! Do you drive up and then 4 wheel? or go all the way on 4 wheels??? excellent reminder of the power of Mauna Kea!!!

Akemi...Most of the time, I'll use 4 wheel drive at about the 7000 ft level and up. Some people will drive all the way to the top with their 2 wheel vehicle but its not recommended especially when it snows. Aloha
