Description

This is a photograph which I took of the sculpture by Jane Alexander. It has featured in two of my previous posts, and in this small way I wish to pay homage to her work. I by no means claim my photograph to be a work of art. May the image provide some inspiration for the 3D community. Many thanks for viewing, Clive. "Jane Alexander's work grapples with the human figure not merely as a form, but as the problem in itself. Her best-known piece, the Butcher Boys of 1985/6, is also one of the most resonant examples of this concern. Three male figures sit upon a bench. Though they have been worked beyond the casting - bone has been inserted in the flesh and the flesh scraped away to reveal the bone - the bodies derive from casts made, compositely, from real people. But the heads are only half-human. Horns grow out from the skulls; the faces are distorted, pulled out of shape, flattened into snouts that do not open into mouths."
