Description

I remember the wallpaper in my grandmother's bedroom. It was as tranquil and quiet as a whisper. I remember the lace doily she had on her dresser... edged with beautiful ribbons... the one on which she placed her engraved silver brush, comb and mirror set. The brush had pure white bristles... and they were as soft as velvet. And I remember the two prints she had hanging on the wall above her bed... faded roses captured in sepia splendor. But most of all I remember her sweet smile... and her warm, brown eyes.

UF3 for fractal and frame, with sig in PSP.

I want to thank all of you... *ever so much*... for the overwhelmingly gracious comments you left under Daydream Believer. I was truly speechless (my husband thanks you for that... lol!) at the feedback you all were so kind to give... and, well, I'd just like to hug you guys all to pieces! :)

I appreciate you taking the time to have a wee look at this one... and I hope it brings you some precious memories of yesteryear. Hugs! Helen

A precious remembrance and a most elegant and beautiful image, Helen. I love the delicately-detailed design, lovely portrait perspective, classic ivory coloring and porcelain finish. The textured linen back adds a real touch of class, and the frame is perfect. Outstanding work!

It is really a pity that the need for "useless" beauty is lost in our world. Everything has to be functional only, beauty is too expensive. Time is too expensive. Life and laughter are too expensive. Silence and joy are no longer trendy, only fast fun. Your image reminds me too of all you told us, and you are right. One can see this very well if one enters a house that was built in the 1920's and kept in a good state...

Her father was a sea captain, a merchant who spent the year traveling between the northeast and Europe making a few dollars along the way as he traded lumber, furs, and tobacco for some of the fineries that only old world skill and equipment could produce. The wallpaper was brought home as a special gift and roll after roll was kept in the special trunk. No one dared to expose it to the vagaries of the seasons, the brutal heat and humidity of the short summers and the smoke and dryness of the winter wood fires. When visitors came, as often they did, it was proudly brought out along with the finest china cups and the exotic teas that were served, and all who saw it's beauty were suitable impressed. One day, after her father had been at sea for a long time, the preacher stopped by and informed the family of the recently reported shipwreck. After the mourners had left it was decided, by a mutual and silent consent, to hang the paper in the parlor. It would bring back the good memories and paper this wonderful could not be left unhung forever. It was a glorious time, everyone remarked upon the beauty of the room, and whenever visitors arrived the captain's life would once again be relived and relished by all.
