Description

I took this photo at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs in April, but I was saving it for Flag Day! Today is the 228th birthday of the "Stars and Stripes." The idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the American Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for his pupils to observe June 14 as 'Flag Birthday'. Inspired by such local celebrations, in 1916 Woodrow Wilson officially established June 14 as Flag Day - the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777.
