Description

When having a camera it's fun to experiment. So back in the early nineties I put a 300 mm on my brand new Minolta camera, an extension tube in between and the lens of a slide projecter on the end. A needle (less than 1 mm thick) served as object and a simple table-lamp took care of ligthing. With only little light entering the camera I had to expose a few seconds (causing the granulation), but it's incredible to see all those details and it's even more incredible as I see some extreme macro-shots here on RR, because I know how hard that can be! No haystack to be seen here, only a needle just for experimenting! Minolta X-700 (Agfa CT 100, extension tube, 300 mm and slide projecter lens)

Amazing! And to think that that little round end is small enought to break skin! Thanks for sharing!

Well that's amazing! At first I thought it was a comet, then I just checked WHO's photo this was in case it was a fractal!!! Ohh well, a bit of fun! Excellent - and I enjoyed reading how you captured it too.

I thought it was a sturgeon! Has some of the issues in adding a Barlow lens to a telescope. The near world has fascinating secrets.

What an interesting idea. This looks like a universe, nebulae, what are they called!?. Very effective and I love the description.

You know, a big part of the success we have with modern macros is due to the extraordinary progress of technology. (sure they are some people with more knowledge and skill than others but...) What you've done here, with an old technology is really stunning. Before reading your text, I thought of the exact opposite of a macro! I thought that you took a shot of a meteor! Surprising...

I agree, for old tech, this is a most amazing image. Instantly made me think of the new Star Wars movie when the pointed command ship was burning as it fell through the atmosphere. The light appears to sparkle from within. The point doesn't look so sharp at this magnification, though I know it must be.

As many, I first thought it was a kind of fish or a shark. Extreme macros are often used for such games : guess what is it ? You shouldn't have given the answer !
