Description

Thanks for viewing !! :o) LOL i wonder if i should have checked the 'violence' box... ;o) This is, or rather was LOL, the Common Mosquito, Aedes punctor. I spotted this little sh** on my jeans when it was just about to bite me, so i swatted it... ;o) I was playing with my cam at the time so i shot it as well LOL ;o) Its bodylength is 6 - 8 mm. Member of a dreadful family of small to medium sized creatures. The head carries a well protected injection needle. When a victim is found, the case that protects the needle is lifted and the needle is injected. Then the animal excretes a substance to prevent the blood from congealing. Now this is the most dangerous part of the process, for this is the moment infected animals inject diseases into man's bloodstream as well. Next the animal sucks blood for some five minutes and flies off. Only female mosquitoes sting, the males are harmless, most can't bite at all as they do not have functional mouth organs. The female needs the blood to produce her eggs. The blood contains some proteins that she can not make herself. As males do not bite it is good to be able to tell the difference between the two. In mosquitoes that is much easier than you might expect. Males have huge, plumelike antennae. As you may see i did some postwork on it for a change, please tell me if you like the result. No major postwork though, just some color adjustments. Hope you like & have a great tuesday!! :o) P.S. for the ones that asked, everything is ok here... no pain whatsoever and the swelling has gone away completely :D Thanks for your concerns :o) - Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my last upload, "In Your Face" !! -- Many thanks, Jeroen

Humanity claps - one down, one billion to go LOL! Incredibly sophisticated stinging-machines that are able to beat the human being in his own terrirory, a stunning fact! Excellent work, Jeroen!

Another one bites the dust.Enmos 1/Mosquito 0.Good for you!So the males don't have functioning mouth organs, hmmm.I bet the females are real unhappy about that. They can go on and on and the males can't do or say a thing about it.Sounds like a dream for many female species!
