Description

...another work involving my technique with terrain made grass layers. (Of course it's not up to the standards of Vue 5 Infinite, but it works OK, IMHO.) - 81 mio polys here, the majority is from the grass terrains. AND - funny thing - the file/scene behaved smoothly with the basic Vue objects and 80 mio polys, then I imported the flowers (made with XFrog) and the performance dropped tremendously. Vue likes it's natives more than the immigrants :) Vue 4.2 with grass terrain and a few "real" grass objects, white umbellifer flowers made in XFrog. Rendertime 4 hrs. (I may try to import the scene into Vue 5, for better lighting options, but I don't think it'll accept the polygon count). Minor touch-up with Photoshop CS. Thanks for looking and for any comments you might want to drop. Have a nice day - Lars

Great work. And I've found the same thing happens sometimes with some of the flowers and plants I sometimes import. Don't know why.

So do i understand correctly you have used a very spiky terrain for the grass? If so that is very clever and a fantastic result! Beautiful scene.

Beautiful, Lars, you really have a touch with that technique. Maybe it would help if you saved the XFrog flowers as vobs? Lovely meadow scene.

Very nice summer scene... the grass layers work extraordinary well: at first sight I thought that the picture is a typical Vue5 result :-)

Would you mind if I ask you to explain a little bit more about "grass terrains", the one you show us here is particularly fantastic. Thanks for your answer, and Bravo !!!

  • Thanks for your kind comments on this one, I really appreciate them. AND as for the grass technique (developed by me - maybe a little difficult to understand, I don't know, the principles are simple, I think) tutorial is available in the freestuff Vue section, or use this URL (same file): http://morkelstedet.dk/Grass_cover_Vue_tut.zip - do try it, it's fun to work with these grass layers (and PLEASE experiment). - Lars

The grass is fantastic. I've got to learn how to do that (I have the tutorial filed away). It makes for such a natural look. You've created a beautiful image!
