Description
Scene: IV Act: I
..."but the strength of thy spirit. It is that which I shall cultivate."
The knight came foward and accepted the sword from the boy, grimacing at the new nicks along its edge.
"Forgive me." Besai begged, wiping the dirt from the blade with his sleeve.
The Red Knight returned the blade to its scabbard in one swift motion.
"It is of no consequence. Come."
He led him deeper still into the Wraithwoods, farther Besai believed, than any man had ventured for centuries. This land belonged to the Chalukai, and other lesser creatures such as elves, trolls, dwarfs and the elusive fairies. Yet his new master traveled as if following a path only he could see. To a destination only he could find.
Besai was contemplating the mystery of his Red Master when it suddenly struck him, he no longer experienced pain at the thought of his family, friends, his city, his life and all he knew, gone now forever. Only....regret.
"Here I shall release your strength."
Besai jumped as the masters words broke into his revelation. He looked up to find they were standing just in front of a pair of gilded doors set into the face of a large hill. The doors rose twenty feet in the air, ten wide, with no handle in sight.
"How do we open that?!" he cried. "It would take ten men! And two horses!"
The Red Master smiled and turned to gaze upon the doors.
"It takes... but a word." he said softly, and Besai strained to hear him.
"Un-venial."
There was a loud rushing sound, like a great wind and then suddenly...absolute silence. The doors opened inward with not even one squeek.
"Must oil those hinges good." Besai commented as he followed the knight into the darkness of the tunnel beyond. As he passed through the doors he noted they were perhaps four feet thick.
"Fifty men...and ten horses." he breathed in amazement."
He followed his master down the short tunnel and into a very large room. The only room. And it was completely bare except for a plain stone alter.
"Come here." the knight bade the boy to stand before him.
Besai came and stood before the Red Knight, apprehension growing deep inside him.
"Do not fear." his master chided. "Thus I shall bring thy strength to the fore."
Besai nodded his head in acceptance. And the Fire consumed him...
