Description

Contrasts can make a shot interesting. Light and dark, playing with that is fun, you can play with it like an artist. The human eye can recognize many contrasts, from subtle to very high contrasts. But there's a limit to it, and everyone who looks into the sun knows he cannot see other objects so well. That light is blinding. A camera cannot see as many contrasts as the human eye. The camera is, so to say, blinded by contrasts we still discern easily. Contrasts that get too high will cause dark or bright area's, like you can see here. Lesson 6 - Be aware the camera gets blinded easier than our eyes, so avoid high contrasts if you don't want to lose details unless you intentionally decide to do so anyway (like shooting a picture with the sun). I agree... My wife asked me to shoot a daisy, yesterday, because it was incredibly lightened and surrounded by a deep dark area. She said the restitution of these contrasts would be great, But... you know the rest...

The second photo is really stunning! I love this, even though I'm not sure if you're saying it's not right? The top one, yes, I can certainly see the example of lack of contrasts, apart from a very interesting looking sky.

The eye has a history. Someday with digital the camera will have a history too. It it will no longer seek to buy the photos as snapshots but will pay what they are worth.

Just like a marriage - it's good to have some differences, but not too much! I do love the scenery you've captured :)

Excellent lesson Jan-Carel, sometimes the "hero" we shoot for doesn't turn out to be the hero after all.
