Description

Aperture and exposure times interact. Well, there are many manuals to be found on the web nowadays so I am not going to explain in detail how the interaction is between aperture, exposure time and film light-sensitivity (ISO). Exposure times have no effect on things that do not move, but moving objects have different effects. You can use a short shutter-time or a long shutter-time with streaming water like here (a crevice in the mountain made the falling water spurting almost horizontally), but a value in between results is an unfortunate compromise, like you can see here (1/30 sec if I'm correct). Lesson 5 - Decide carefully what shutter-time you (approximately) want to use. Many camera's provide the opportunity to set the exposure-time so that the camera automatically will adapt the appropriate aperture (that will determine your DOF). I can't figure out if it's a geyser shooting upwards, or a waterfall at a 90 angle! However, it's another good lesson :)

Interesting capture of this water gushing out of the mountains crevasse horizontally. Not very often will one see something like this. There must be a strong force of water hidden behind this crevasse. Excellent lesson on the shutter speed. I haven't tried adjusting the shutter speed for moving subjects yet but have been doing it for dark/night shots. I'll take many pictures with different settings. Then I'll pick the best one (I'm still a rookie here). Thanks for your expert help. Aloha

You're right, you're totally right... but it needs a long practice before being able to make those decisions correctly. But you're right!

Yes, Philippe said it right... it needs a long practice before being able to make those decisions correctly. Interesting lesson again, thanks!

Very nice to go "back to basics"... The subject of the picture doesn't matter, just the lesson : you are just such a great teacher ! Thanks, Jan-Carel (and thanks for your IM too) :~)

I found in a rifle crack I did not believe in diopter. It added to my disbelief in determinants. Even the camera cannot save the ID. I grew!!
